Chesapeake Gallery

The Chesapeake Gallery at Harford Community College features contemporary art by emerging and established artists as well as HCC faculty and students.

Located in the Student Center, the Chesapeake Gallery is the only exhibition space of its kind between Baltimore and Newark. It serves as a vital educational link between the community and the practice of art and design in the region.

2019 Annual Juried Student Art + Design Exhibition
April 26 - May 24, 2019
Opening Reception:  Tuesday, April 30th, 5-6:30 PM

Each year, students in the Art + Design program at Harford Community College are encouraged to submit their work to the annual juried exhibition held in the Chesapeake Gallery, located in the Student Center building. This exhibition has a long tradition at HCC dating prior to the 1970’s. Thousands of students started their exhibition careers with this annual show. Over the last decade, these exhibitions have been juried by art and design professionals from the region who have recommended purchase awards for students whose work becomes permanently collected by the college and displayed in the Joppa North Gallery in Joppa Hall.

This year’s juror, Abigail Donovan, is an artist living and working in Eugene, Oregon and Newark, Delaware. Frequently appearing as artist collective the 181, she has had exhibitions and performances at a variety of national and international venues. Donovan is professor and director of graduate studies in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Delaware. She holds an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BA from Swarthmore College.

Immediately following the Annual Juried Student Art + Design Exhibition Reception at the Chesapeake Gallery, the annual Salon Des Refuses Exhibition will have its own opening reception in Joppa Hall at 7PM with a talk at 7:30PM.
