Physical Education
| Aikido I |
This course teaches the basic movements of self-defense which do not require great amounts of physical strength. Paired partner practice is used to learn movements that respond to a given attack with a specific defense. | Conditioning and Toning |
This class will help you to shape your major muscle groups including thighs, abdominals, and buttocks, as well as muscles of the upper body. The class will utilize hand weights, stretch bands, and a variety of floor exercises to improve your strength and conditioning levels.

| Dog Friendly Hiking |
Start your week with fresh air and exercise for you and your pal. Explore various local trails on easy to moderate 3-4 mile hikes with other dog lovers. Love dogs but don't have one? Come anyway and enjoy watching and talking dogs! Students are expected to provide their own transportation to the sites and must wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots. Bring water and raingear, if necessary. Dogs need leashes, clean-up bags and a copy of their up-to-date vaccines.

| Fall Day Hikes |
Enjoy the changing of the seasons with a scenic drive and hike in Maryland or in neighboring states. This course is for experienced hikers only. Hikes will be between six and eight miles in length at a moderate pace with some strenuous hills at some locations. They will last between three and one half hours to four and one half hours, inlcuding a lunch break. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to the sites (carpools will be encouraged). Participants must wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots. Former Tour professional and Now Master golf professional, Matthew Ferguson
of the Australian PGA, provides a fun learning atmosphere for both men and
women of all ages and ability.
More than just learning the basics, this course offers something for all who want to learn the game of golf from scratch or to advance your current
playing ability.
Basic fundamentals will be covered such as the grip, stance, and posture,
but most importantly students will be shown how tour players make it look so
easy and how they are able to move the same way and get similar results.
Etiquette, terminology, and different shot techniques will be covered,
including full swing, pitching, chipping, putting, and bunker play.
All class sessions will be held at Churchville Golf Driving Range at their
new pro shop and teaching facility, Maryland's only public indoor/outdoor
all-weather teaching facility. Use of range balls and golf clubs are
included in the cost. Minimum age 15.

| Hatha Yoga - Level I |
Create a supple and relaxed body, increased vitality, and radiant health. Hatha Yoga is a systematic way to attain emotional harmony, physical health, and mental peace. Exercises include body postures, deep relaxation, breath control, cleansing processes, and mental concentration. Bring a towel or mat for exercising. Level I offers a slower progression of very gentle warm-ups and postures with shorter holding periods for the beginner who is mainly interested in relaxation techniques and muscle toning.

| Lifetime Fitness |
Lifetime Fitness is a class that will have two sections offered three times a week. This class provides supervised workout sessions where participants can utilize the Fitness Center and receive optional fitness evaluations and body composition reports. A fitness instructor will be present for all of these class sessions so you can ask questions and receive feedback about your workout regimen. Individuals can combine treadmills, stairsteppers, bikes, ellipticals, and rowing machines in an aerobic workout and also perform a variety of strength and toning exercises on a full complement of weight training equipment.Registration for this class also includes an activity card, which will allow you to utilize the Fitness Center during all open Fitness Center recreation times. Minimum age is 16.

| Senior Aquatic Wellness |
Designed to teach senior adults, as well as those who are medically referred, the value of exercise in the water as a helpful tool for fitness and health and in reducing illness and physical concerns. The course is designed to improve levels of cardiovascular fitness and range of motion. Instruction in basic swimming skills, safety precautions, and how to monitor pulse rate will also be covered. Please note: the target pool temperature is between 86 and 88 degrees. Senior adult and disabled retiree tuition waivers apply.

| Yogalates |
This excercise is a hybrid that combines the practices of yoga with pilates mat excercises. This fusion focuses on strengthening the core, while increasing flexibility. Both disciplines share the ideals of proper breathing, strengthenining, flexibility, and meditation. This is a great opportunity for those who like both Yoga and pilates, but don't have the time to schedule both classes. Class begins with traditional yoga warm up excercises, like sun salutation. We then transition to more intensive core excercises, some borrowed from Pilates.

Zumba combines high energy and motivating Latin and International music with unique moves and combinations that allow the participants to dance away their worries. It is based on the principle that a workout should be "FUN AND EASY TO DO" in order for Zumba participants to stick to the Zumba fitness program to achieve long-term health benefits. Zumba is great for the body and mind. It is a "feel-happy" workout. Zumba creates a party like atmosphere! Be prepared to sweat!

Zumba Gold is a series of fitness programs specifically designed to take the exciting Latin and International dance rhythms to the active older adult. It is easy to follow so everyone any age can do it and includes Merengue, Salsa, Cha cha, Cumbia, Belly Dance, Flamenco, Tango, and Rock and Roll. This program is guaranteed to provide the participant with a safe and effective total body workout! It's great for the mind, body, and soul of this expanding active older adult population. Same great music and moves, but a little slower pace and more time teaching the steps. Everyone in the County is welcome regardless of your fitness needs. As with all fitness classes it is recommended that you seek a physician's advice before starting an exercise program.
