Two Harford Community College students, Krista Wilcox and Tallon Velasquez, were recently named to the 2019 All-Maryland Community College Academic Team. Krista recently represented the College at the All-Maryland Community College Academic Team Recognition Dinner held at the Turf Valley Resort and Conference Center in Ellicott City, MD. Also in attendance were her parents; Dr. Dianna G. Phillips, President of Harford Community College; and Jennifer Jacobs, PTK faculty advisor. Tallon was unable to attend.

Krista was homeschooled from kindergarten through high school. A Harford Community College scholarship recipient, she earned an Associate of Arts degree in Communication Studies with High Honors in May. She will attend the University of Maryland-College Park in the fall to study communication and Arabic. Krista is working toward fluency in the Arabic language and hopes to use her skills to work at the NSA as an analyst in the future. Tallon earned an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies with High Honors in May.

The Maryland All-State Academic Team Recognition Awards Program was introduced in 1995 as a way to recognize the scholastic achievement and leadership among the students in Maryland’s community colleges.

To be eligible for the academic team, Phi Theta Kappa members at Harford must complete an application for the PTK Fall Scholarship. Jacobs is responsible for nominating two students from the pool to represent Harford at the recognition dinner.
