About VPAA

The VPAA Division is the vital hub of the arts at Harford Community College. Located in Joppa Hall, we offer programs in Art + Design, Mass Communications, Music, and Theater. Our faculty are expert professionals in their respective fields, and we have state-of-the-art facilities in our digital art, electronic music, fine art, photography, television, audio and video editing studios.

VPAA is responsible for the operation of 91.1 WHFC-FM, Bel Air’s only radio station and the only public broadcaster in the Harford County, as well as the Chesapeake Gallery in the Student Center, which features regional, contemporary art exhibitions. We produce several professional concerts, including the Evening of Jazz Series and the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series, in Joppa Hall, as well as regular performances in the BlackBox Theater. Owl Magazine, the award winning HCC student publication, is also produced in Joppa Hall.

There is a very active student gallery in Joppa Hall, as well as numerous display areas for student work throughout the building and on campus. Joppa Hall also houses numerous art works that are part of the HCC permanent art collection, including works by former students selected and purchased from previous juried student exhibitions.

The performance areas in Joppa Hall include recital/concert spaces in the music wing, the BlackBox Theatre in the theatre wing, and an open-air courtyard near the Joppa Café. Additional performance spaces on campus include the Chesapeake Theater and the Amoss Center for the Performing Arts, as well as the APGFCU Arena.
