The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a multiple-choice assessment of basic skills in the academic content areas of Reading, Mathematics, Science and English and Language usage.
Successful completion of the test is a requirement for admission to the HCC Nursing Program.
Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI), creators of the TEAS, offers the following items to prepare for the test:
TEAS Preparation Materials
ATI TEAS Study Manual
ATI TEAS Online Practice Assessment, Form A
TEAS Online Practice Assessment, Form B
ATI TEAS SmartPrep Study Package
We offer TEAS to students applying to the HCC nursing program ONLY and who meet the following criteria:
Registration typically opens in July for testing in August and in November for testing in January.
For August 2020, the TEAS Testing with HCC will be offered through ONLINE REMOTE proctoring (NOT at the HCC Test Center). Students take the test at their own location and using their own devices. ATI is partnering with Proctorio, a virtual remote proctoring platform to deliver TEAS. Before you register for the test, it is imperative that you read and understand the TEAS Student Quick Start Guide. Ensure that your computer meets the technology requirements.
All students preparing to take the TEAS test must have an ATI account. An account may be created by going to the ATI website, and clicking on create a new account. For Institution Option, select Harford CC TEAS. Please be sure to include your HCC student ID number (example: H123456) in your profile page. To add your HCC student ID number to your existing profile, log-in to your ATI student home page and edit your profile. All candidates taking the TEAS test at Harford Community College MUST have a valid Harford student ID number in their ATI profile.
Applicants who are not HCC students or who will not be able to test during the specified times at HCC (online remote proctored) have two options to complete the TEAS:
- TEAS at PSI. To learn more, click on Steps to Sign Up for TEAS with PSI.
- TEAS at ATI. To learn more information on how to register for TEAS at PSI and TEAS at ATI, visit https://www.atitesting.com/teas/register.
Test scores will be available online after the completion of the test. You must log in to the ATI website to obtain the scores. Harford Community College will use the scores associated with the highest Adjusted Individual Score. TEAS scores are valid for two years. The minimum TEAS score requirement to apply to the HCC Nursing Program is 58.7. Review the nursing program selection criteria worksheet for more information about TEAS score requirement.
Students can only take TEAS three times within a year period. Harford Community College will not accept scores beyond three test attempts within a year period. Also, you should not register for TEAS at HCC if you have exceeded the three test attempts in a year.
Students who have tested at other schools or locations can request to have their TEAS scores sent to HCC for a fee. The request should be made through the ATI store by selecting the TEAS Transcript option. TEAS scores sent via paper copy or attached with the application form will not be accepted.
