Jim McFarland
Professor Art and Design
About
Professor McFarland has taught Art + Design courses at HCC since joining the faculty
in 1990. He is a member of the International Sculpture Center, the National Council
for Education in the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) and the American Craft Council. He has taught
at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, and regularly serves as a juror
for art exhibitions and competitions in the region.

Research Interests
- Contemporary ceramics, sculpture and design.
SCHOLARLY/CREATIVE WORK
Jim has exhibited sculpture in the Mid-Atlantic and the Mid-West. He received a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award, and has three sculptures that are part of the permanent collection at HCC - Harford Landscape, on the main floor of the Library, Contemplation, in the administrative suite on the third floor of the Library, and Counselor, in Darlington Hall. He exhibits ceramics in Havre de Grace, MD. His curatorial work includes numerous sculpture and ceramics exhibitions in the Chesapeake Gallery, as well as outdoor sculpture installed on campus and in Havre de Grace, MD.
