Chelsea Reeder
12 April 2021
Chelsea, who was extremely honored to be accepted to the program, will be traveling to Hanoi, Vietnam for 10 months in the fall. There she will teach Communicative English and English for Special Purposes at Hanoi Metropolitan University. After that, she hopes to return to Harford to teach transitional reading and writing classes.
Reeder, who has worked at Harford since August 2018, earned a BA in Geography and Urban Studies from Temple University and an MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Prior to coming to the College, she taught English as a Foreign Language in South Korea for two years. After returning to the U.S., she taught virtual Conversational English classes to students from all over the world.
Chelsea pursued a career with Harford because she felt it would help her develop new skills. “As someone who works with English language learners, I wanted to diversify my skillset. I felt that being the coordinator of the Harford ESL program would give me a different perspective and help me strengthen my soft skills.”
She has greatly enjoyed working at the College. “Working with ESL students at Harford is a dream because they’re so hardworking. When I see their confidence in their English skills improve, it’s such a wonderful feeling. I couldn't do what I do without the support of the Continuing Education and Training division and the amazing Adult Literacy team. It’s a pleasure to work with such a dedicated group of people.”
Reeder added, “Working in the Adult Literacy department at Harford has been the most fulfilling and enlightening professional experience of my life. We’ve faced many challenges in our program that required determination, flexibility, and ingenuity to overcome, and we've always been successful! The skills that I’ve learned in my career at Harford will undoubtedly serve me well wherever I find myself in the future.”
