Harford Announces Spring '21 Athletic Director's Honor Roll

14 June 2021

Harford Interim Athletic Director Ed Liesch has announced that 59 student-athletes have earned a spot on the Athletic Director (AD) Honor Roll, with 17 Fighting Owls securing a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) for the spring 2021 semester.

"I am proud of our student-athletes for continuing to strive for success during a year unlike any other, both on the field and in the classroom," said Manager for Athletic Compliance and Student-Athlete Success Dimitrios Jelen-Joy.

The athletic department combined for a 2.80 overall GPA for the spring, during which the majority of classes were held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To earn a spot on the AD Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.0 grade-point average while taking at least 12 credits.

Individual Accomplishments

17 Fighting Owls maintained a perfect GPA during the spring: Bailey Alampi (WLAX), Ronin Bangs (MSOC), George Beeker (MSOC), Connor Blantz (BASE), Brendan Bloss (MXC), Freddie Brophy (MLAX), Chloe Certain (WTEN), Kiley Day (WLAX), Hailey Deares (WXC), Bradley Hall (MBB), Paige Iacaruso (WXC), Jameson O'Donald (MXC), Cassidy Poole (WLAX), Lauren Puntanen (WSOC), Kaylee Siler (SB), Michael Tomko (MXC), and Jaqui Zorzi (VB).

Sophomore cross country student-athletes Paige Iacaruso and Jameson O'Donald headline the group, with both earning a 4.0 GPA for the fourth consecutive semester. Eight student-athletes achieved their second perfect semester as Fighting Owls, while seven more earned a 4.0 for the first time.

Of the 58 student-athletes who made the AD Honor Roll, 22 are appearing for the first time. 29 additional Harford student-athletes made the cut for a second time and four enter the list for a third time. Garrett Burns (MXC) and Brendan Bloss (MXC) join fellow cross country teammates Iacaruso and O'Donald on the AD Honor Roll for a fourth straight semester.

Team Comparison

Leading the way in the spring were the men's and women's cross country teams, whose rosters combined for seven AD honor roll members, five 4.0's, and a team GPA of 3.72. Individually, the women earned a 4.0 while the men earned a 3.63.

Rounding out the top five team GPA's were women's tennis (3.65), volleyball (3.28), and women's lacrosse (3.17). Women's soccer (3.03), men's tennis (2.91), and softball (2.96) ended the semester above the department average.

Fighting Owls women's lacrosse and men's cross country lead the way with three of their student-athletes receiving 4.0's respectively. Harford baseball finishes with the most honor roll members (nine), while men's lacrosse and men's soccer slid in slightly behind at seven.
