Harford Goes to Bat for Annual “Home Runs for the Homeless” Event

Members of the Fighting Owls baseball and softball teams represented Harford Community College in the 13th annual "Home Runs for the Homeless" event hosted by Harford Family House on Thursday, July 15, 2021.

The event, which took place at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, allows teams of four from businesses across Maryland to compete in a home run derby-style competition while raising both funds and critical awareness for Harford County's families with children experiencing homelessness.

Team Harford CC consisted of freshman Mason Hicks and redshirt freshman Joe Quelch, both of whom participated in last year's event. The two baseball standouts were joined by a pair of incoming Harford softball newcomers Lena Wondolowski and Emily Curry. The four Fighting Owls put together a final score of 1,290, which included one home run from Hicks and an over 400 point showing from Quelch.

After the hitting was finished, the Fighting Owls were joined on the field for a photo op with Harford Community College Board of Trustees member Brian Walker, the Councilmanic District C Representative.

Over the past 13 years, "Home Runs for the Homeless" has raised more than $280,000, helping to provide housing, resources and support for Harford County's families with children experiencing homelessness. Harford Family House has supported more than 600 families, touching the lives of more than 1,900 individuals.
