Stout Family Dedicates Nursing Lab and Establishes Scholarship Fund at Harford Community College

The Harford Community College Foundation held a naming dedication ceremony for the nursing skills lab #322 located in Darlington Hall on the campus of Harford Community College in Bel Air, MD on August 26, 2021.

The lab is named in memory of Pauline Ellen Stout, who passed away in 2019. A scholarship endowment has been established by Mrs. Stout’s family, Kathleen Stout Yetter (daughter), William Stout Jr. (husband), Karen Stout (daughter), and William Andrew Stout III (son)(pictured below).

The scholarship is open to Harford Community College students enrolled in the Nursing AS degree program of study. Student recipients of the scholarship must be enrolled at least half-time, with a 2.5+ cumulative GPA, and demonstrate financial need. The scholarship award is designated for tuition, fees, books, and instructional supplies.

Cierra Hovermill, who attended the dedication ceremony, is the inaugural recipient of the Pauline Ellen Stout Memorial Nursing Scholarship. Cierra addressed the audience expressing her gratitude for the scholarship and her aspiration to assist those in need in her community by becoming a registered nurse.

More than 50-year residents of Harford County, the family chose to establish the endowment at Harford Community College because of the family’s deep connections with the College. Most importantly, Mrs. Stout – who always aspired to have a college degree – modeled the way forward for her children by taking classes as an adult student at Harford to build her skills and confidence to return to the workforce. Mr. Stout taught continuing education courses at Harford. Their oldest daughter, Karen, started her more than 35-year community college career at Harford. The College’s gymnasium and athletic fields were a frequent destination for the Stout children and grandchildren and a place where Mrs. Stout could support and cheer on their participation.
