14 May 2023
The #1-seeded Harford Community College Fighting Owls defeated defending national champions Nassau Community College Lions (New York) 13-8 at this year’s NJCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championship. Held at Harford’s Bel Air, Maryland campus on Sunday, May 14, an awards ceremony followed the game where Harford was presented the championship trophy for the first time in program history.
Harford was chosen to host the 2023 NJCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championship, May 13 & 14, at the Sports Complex on Harford’s campus in partnership with the National Junior College Athletic Association and Region 20.
The Fighting Owls demonstrated great team chemistry and Harford’s spirited fans showed their enthusiasm for their team throughout the game and exponentially at every turnover, save and goal.
The #1-seeded Harford’s Fighting Owls won the semifinal contest on Saturday, May 13 against the #4-ranked CCBC Essex Knights in a 1 PM game. #2 Nassau Community College beat the #3 Onondaga Community College Lazers at the 3:30 PM game.
Harford Community College welcomed hundreds of visitors to campus for the two-day event. The College made several updates to its facilities in preparation for the championship, including a new stadium press box, scoreboard, and other renovations to the complex.
Harford’s Fighting Owls men’s lacrosse team has attended the final four in the last three seasons, but this is the team’s first time to claim the title of National Champions. The tournament has been held in Maryland 15 times since its inception in 1970, most recently in 2015 at CCBC Essex. The past two national championships have been held in Garden City, NY, home of Nassau Community College. A true lax powerhouse, the Nassau Lions have won 23 lacrosse national championships in their history, including the previous two years.
