Harford Community College Actors Guild to Perform Radium Girls
04 October 2023
Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory will be presented by The Actors Guild of Harford Community College, November 3-5 and November 10-12 at the Blackbox Theater in Joppa Hall on campus.
The story begins in 1926, when radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie was an international celebrity, and luminous watches were the latest rage—until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court in what would be one of the most important worker’s rights cases in history. Called a powerful and engrossing drama by critics, Radium Girls offers an unflinching look at the peculiarly American obsessions with health, wealth, and the commercialization of science.
