Watson Awarded Barry Glassman Public Service Scholarship

Harford Community College student Donald Watson was named the first recipient of the Barry Glassman Public Service Scholarship.

Donald recently had the opportunity to meet Barry Glassman, former County Executive for Harford County, to express his gratitude for the award. Glassman and Donald share a passion for public service, choosing kindness and doing their best to make the world a better place one person at a time.

The Barry Glassman Public Service Scholarship is awarded to a Harford Community College student who has declared political science as a major and is entering the second year of study in the political science degree program. Students applying for the scholarship must also write an essay on civility in government.

Donald Watson is in his second year of study working toward a degree in political science. Last year, he presented a paper at the Maryland Scholar’s Summit, a research conference designed for community college students. He also served as a legislative intern for a Maryland State Delegate during the 2024 Maryland General Assembly Session.

Throughout his 30+ years in public service, Barry Glassman has been recognized for outstanding character, service, and leadership. He has served on the Harford County Council, in the Maryland House of Delegates, and the state Senate. His record as a fiscal conservative includes promoting rural values and steadfast protection of Harford County’s land and water resources.

The Glassman scholarship was established through the Harford Community College Foundation.  With a focus on developing educational opportunities to ensure student success, the Foundation provides resources needed to remove financial barriers that prevent students from pursuing their education.
