Owl Media Wins Again with Six Apple Awards
24 April 2025
Owl Media, Harford Community College’s student multimedia publication, found success at the Apple Awards this year, winning national awards in six different categories.
Student media publications from across the nation entered the competition, and winners were announced at the ProCon 25 Convention in New York City from February 26 to March 1. Harford’s Journalism Club was in attendance at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, where the convention was held.
“Remembering Rachel Morin One Year Later” and “Halloween in New Orleans” by Luke Teigue
marked Owl Media’s first wins in the Apple Awards photo categories, placing second
for “Best News Photography” and winning an honorable mention for “Best Feature Photography.”
Owl Media won third place recognition for “Best Multimedia Package.” The projects
submitted for this category included an article, “My Perspective on the People’s March:
An Op-Ed,” one video, “The People’s March 2025,” and a photo package, “The People’s
March.” Reporting, narration, videography, and writing were provided by Tacy Brown,
with photography, videography, and video editing by Luke Teigue.
Owl Media’s social media coverage of the People’s March also won the publication another third place for “Best Social Media Coverage of a Single Event.”
Only two years after transitioning from the printed Owl Magazine to an online website, Owl Media won a second award in the category, placing third for “Best Feature Website.”
For “Best Opinion Column,” Tacy Brown’s article “Cornerstone of Change: The Power of Peaceful Protest” won an honorable mention, again marking the publication’s first award in the category.
The 2024-2025 student staff was led by Editor-in-Chief Luke Teigue and advised by
Claudia Brown, Brendan Flanagan, Stephanie Perkins, and Brianna Skrivanek.
