Printing, Copying + Scanning
The Library offers printing for credit and noncredit students, employees, and community borrowers. Printing stations are available on each floor of the library.
First-Time Printing?
- Swipe your HCC ID (stripe side down) at the card reader attached to the printer. Printers are located on each floor of the Library.
- You will be asked to log in with your HCC credentials.
- Once you have logged in you should receive a message that your HCC ID is associated with Papercut.
- Re-swipe your HCC ID to view your print jobs and print.
Cost:
- Registered HCC credit students receive $50 in free printing each academic year, at the beginning of the summer session. All unused allotment expires after the the spring semester.
- Black & White = 5 cents per page
- Color = 50 cents per page
- Refunds will only be issued for printer error or misfeed. Wrong paper size, orientation, color, and other user errors will not be refunded.
Printing from a Laptop or Personal Device:
- Log into Papercut with your HCC credentials.
- Select “Web Print” from the menu. * If you are on a mobile device, select “View in Desktop Mode” to access “Web Print”.
- Follow the steps to upload your document and send to a Library printer.
- To release your print job, swipe your HCC ID at ANY of the Library’s printers.
Printing from a Library Computer:
- Pull up your document on the library computer, go to File>Print, and select “FollowMe [BlackWhite]” or “FollowMe [Color]” from the menu options. You can send multiple items to the printer before releasing your print jobs.
- To release a prints, swipe your HCC ID at the card reader.
- Select your print job on the screen and hit “print”.
- You can see your remaining print balance in the upper right-hand corner of the desktop.
Printing from a USB Drive:
- Swipe your HCC ID at the printer.
- Plug your USB drive into the USB port on the front of the printer.
- Select “Device Functions”.
- Select “Print from USB Memory”.
- Select the file you want to print, “Choose Print Settings,” and select “Start”.
Scanning & Photocopying:
- Swipe your HCC ID at the printer.
- To scan, select the “Scan” option on the screen.
- Select “scan to email” or “scan to H Drive”.
- Place your document in the feeder above, or on the glass.
- Choose your scan settings and hit “scan”.
- To photocopy, select the “Access Device” option on the screen.
- Place your document in the feeder above, or on the glass.
- Choose your print settings and hit “print”.
Adding Funds to Papercut:
- Students can add additional funds to their printing account using a credit card via the “ADD FUNDS” link on a library computer, or using cash the cash machine. All funds must be spent down by the end of the semester.
- Keep track of your balance in Papercut.

Printing Costs:
Printing costs 10 cents for each black & white copy and $1 for each color copy.
Registering for a Printing Account:
Visit the Circulation or Research Help Desk to register for a PaperCut account. Please note that it will take 5 business days for your request to be completed. If you need immediate printing assistance, please use the services at Harford County Public Library (HCPL): https://www.hcplonline.org/printing.php
Printing Steps:
After your PaperCut account has been created, a service desk member will log you into a computer.
Once the desktop screen comes up, you will need to wait for the PaperCut login to appear.
- Log in with your PaperCut Username and Password. The balance widget at the top right of the desktop will display your current balance.
- To add funds to your account, click on the add funds link. This will open the online payment form. Enter your information and click submit. Make sure you think about the amount of funds you need to print; this is a non-refundable transaction.
- A pop-up box will inform you that you are going to a secure site for payment.
- A window will appear asking for the payment option. Enter your payment choice and click on continue checkout.
- Enter your payment information and click on continue checkout. Note that you must have an email address. You will receive email confirmation of the credit card transaction.
- A transaction screen will appear. Make sure to click on sign out when you are finished.
- The desktop widget will now show your new balance and you are ready to print. Funds will deduct from your account when you release the prints at the print station.
